Two To-Do Tuesday: Indiana Supermajority and Voting
Share the News
Indiana Supermajority Facts
Indiana has been controlled by one party for over 20 years straight, undermining accountability, transparency , and bipartisanship.
Republicans make up 73% of the Indiana legislature, despite fewer than 60% of voters typically voting Republican. Gerrymandering has given them disproportionate power and representation.
SEA 1, 2025 Republican-backed property tax overhaul, will cost local communities $1.8 billion in lost revenue; public schools account for $744 million of that loss.
Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” (HR 1) slashed $31 billion from Indiana Medicaid, including almost $13 billion in hospital funding over the next decade.
42% of Indiana’s rural hospitals no longer provide labor and delivery services. Since 2020, 16 OB departments have closed in Indiana, nearly all in rural communities.
About 1 in 5 Hoosiers has medical debt currently in collections. This is the highest rate in the Midwest, and the 11th highest nationally.
