Medicaid Cuts and Expiration of Tax Credits for ACA Leave More Hoosiers Uninsured

According to a June 5th article in the Indiana Capital Chronicle, more than 400,000 Hoosiers were found to be ineligible for Medicaid since the FSSA imposed additional eligibility checks. An additional 60,000 fewer Hoosiers signed up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This will significantly impact the overall healthcare of Hoosiers.

Impact on Hospitals

• Indiana hospitals are reporting a 17% increase in ER visits since the start of 2025. This is compared to a 1.4% increase nationwide.

• Hospitals are reporting significant increases in medical debt.

Impact on Private Insurance

• Employer healthcare plans are unaffordable with premium increases.

• High deductible plans mean unrealistic out-of-pocket costs.

• More employed Hoosiers are without insurance coverage as plans are not affordable.

Ominous Forecast

• More Hoosiers are expected to lose Medicaid coverage when work requirements take effect in January.

• Hoosiers will delay medical treatment until an acute need arises, increasing debt and decreasing overall quality of life.
