RUN FOR...
Becoming a State Senator is one of the most impactful ways you can serve your community and make a difference in the lives of your fellow citizens. There are only 100 State Senators in the assembly! As a State Senator, you’ll be entrusted with the responsibility of crafting and passing laws that shape your state’s future. Your decisions will influence critical issues such as education, healthcare, economic policy, infrastructure, and social justice. This role gives you the power to fight for the values you believe in and to create a more prosperous, just, and equitable state for everyone.
What You’ll Do:
Craft Legislation: As a State Senator, you’ll introduce, debate, and vote on laws that affect every part of life in your state. You’ll work on a wide range of issues, from funding public education and expanding healthcare access to protecting the environment and improving job opportunities.
Represent Your District: Your role as a State Senator is to represent the interests of your district. You’ll ensure your community’s voice is heard on the state level and advocate for the needs of your constituents—whether it’s securing funding for local projects or ensuring important issues like healthcare or infrastructure are prioritized.
Advocate for Change: You’ll be at the forefront of shaping state policies that directly impact people’s lives. Whether fighting for fair wages, addressing housing crises, or improving the criminal justice system, you’ll have the opportunity to push for legislation that promotes justice, equity, and prosperity.
Build Coalitions: Legislation is a collaborative process, and as a State Senator, you’ll need to build relationships and work across party lines. You’ll collaborate with fellow senators, state officials, community leaders, and advocates to ensure your proposals have the support they need to pass.
Fight for Funding: Your work will also include fighting for your district’s fair share of state resources. You’ll advocate for funding in areas like public education, healthcare, transportation, and local economic development, making sure your district gets the attention and support it needs.
Engage with Your Constituents: Regularly interacting with your constituents will help you stay connected to their needs, concerns, and aspirations. Whether it’s through town halls, meetings, or direct outreach, you’ll build a strong relationship with the people you represent, ensuring you’re always working for them.
